TRAVEL GUIDE:

BIG SUR

BIG SUR, CALIFORNIA

Big Sur has been pretty popular lately. Its about 6 hours from Los Angeles, and offers some of the most spectacular views right from your the roadside. The water is brighter than anything I have ever seen and the cliff sides are untouched masterpieces. Before traveling to Big Sur I figured it would be uneventful for me, its just a bunch of beaches and I grew up in a beach city, I was happily mistaken.

The photo above and below is at McWay Falls, a natural waterfall that goes straight into the Pacific Ocean. The first time we stopped by McWay falls we got there around 12pm with thousand other people. It was so crowded and the sunset was so harsh it just didn't do McWay any justice. We left thinking that it just wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. Later in our trip we decided to go back for sunset and check it out, boy am I glad we did that! In the sunset light McWay falls comes alive. The water is this saturated clear blue, the hill side is more vibrant without the bright sun and it is so much quieter without all the people! Sometimes you might stop by McWay and there is a line of photographers, so I suggest coming a little ahead of sunset so you can get a good spot for a photo.

This is the ever so popular, Pfieffer Beach. It is such a cool beach, it should seriously be in a movie. You have to come for sunset. The sun shines through this whole in the rock and it creates the most beautiful photo. The road into Pfieffer can be kinda hard to miss, it is a very abrupt turn of the highway, then you follow a one way road down to the beach. Do not park anywhere other than inside the park, the residents aren’t afraid to call the cops. Bring a tripod for some Nd filter photos, or just bring a blanket to sit up on the hill and watch the beautiful sunset.

Oh and Pfieffer Beach is different than Pfieffer State Park.

Don't hesitate to pull over and take a photo. Every corner is a different view, so take advantage of every angle you can get!
